Next Door brings together critically-acclaimed visual artists from both countries in a contemporary exhibition that commemorates neighborly ties and shared affinities.

Spotlighting artists born after 1965, Next Door presents art works that reflect the sensibility of a ‘new generation’ shaped by the system, policies and aspirations of a ‘new nation’.

50 years of rapid economic transformations have since altered the physical landscape and cultural memory of both countries. The robust voice of the post-1965 generation comes from being groomed in transition from the cusp of the ‘old’ world into a ‘new’ reality.

As a major survey exhibition, Next Door is an unprecedented assembly of Singapore’s internationally-reputed mid-career artists – alongside their well accomplished Malaysian counterparts.

It presents the forte of the formidable post-1965 generation in media art and conceptual photography, as well as graphic design, poetry, sculpture and performance.
